CITIZENS ADVICE 1066
Citizens Advice 1066 is governed by a Board of seven volunteer
Trustees that meet bi-monthly. The Bureau has 23 paid members of staff,
25 volunteers answering phone enquiries and meeting clients face to
face, and 16 General Advisers.
The General Advice Service is mainly staffed by a team of around
40 volunteers, and deals with the majority of issues presented to the
Bureau which include housing, employment, consumer rights, immigration,
state benefits, and relationships.
The Money Advice Service specializes in complex debt issues.
This can include cases where clients have a large number of creditors,
or those that involve difficult legal matters, for example mortgage
shortfall debts. In 2008-09 this department provided casework support in
managing over £13 million of debt on behalf of local residents. In
addition to a Legal Service Commission Debt contract the Money
Advice
Service has a programme that works with tenants of Social Landlords,
participates in a Community Banking Partnership and runs an EDF Fuel
poverty advice project.
